Just dropping you a very quick note to update you on some news in the garden.
David Howell came out to the garden on Saturday and conducted a workshop on tree grafting. Last year's session was very successful and a significant number of trees were successfully grafted by beginners under David's careful tutelage so we're hopeful this session will yield similar results. These trees form part of the UCD Heritage Apple collection and will be planted in the orchard over the coming weeks.
Our new shed is now proudly in situ and we are working on preparing the floor, putting in a ramp etc. Hopefully we'll be fully moved in over the next few weeks.
As you know, the provision for the shed has put our rather meagre resources under a bit of a strain so we have decided to hold a fundraising Table Quiz event in Na Fianna GAA Club (on St Mobhi Road in Glasnevin) on Friday 17th April from 8pm. We are asking all members to come along and support us - it should be a bit of craic and if we can raise money to help cover the cost of the new shed that will be a great added bonus. Tickets are 10 euro per person and we aim to have around 15-20 teams (with 4 people in each team). Please make a note in your diary and I'll be in touch again nearer the time.
Equally so if anyone can help with prizes for the quiz we would be most grateful. We'll be contacting local businesses to see can they see their way to supporting us so if you work for a company or have contacts with any firms who might be able to help please put in a good word for us. Anything from a bottle of wine up to a fortnight in the Caribbean (in our dreams!) would be very welcome!
We are delighted to report that Electric Ireland have agreed to sponsor the extension of our Apiary and the installation of some new hives - so heartfelt thanks to them for their support (and Teresa for her help in persuading them!).
I think that's all the news for now. Of course the garden remains a hive of activity even in the cold months of February and March but the coming weeks should see a real return of life and colour so hope to see you all soon.
