The Garden is closed now for Christmas and will be open again in the New Year from January 3rd onwards.
The garden has a rather bleak beauty at this time of year but stripped of it's verdant finery you can really see the strong form and structure coming through. We have been working away on it now since 2010 and as we enter our fourth year the hard work is really paying off.
This is especially evident in the front recreational garden which we really only started working on in the last 18 months. It's a huge area and takes a lot of really committed and focussed work. The paths are scraped manually to keep them clear and the beds are taking on some great colour and structure and I'm sure next year will see this area really coming into it's own.
The work on the Orchard is also paying dividends - the trees are maturing beautifully and the recent mulching has really given this central section an extra wow factor.
Over the next few weeks (months?!) we'll be digging over the problem corner (every garden has one) in the top kitchen garden. Brian and Martin have designed a series of raised beds which will really give some great structure to the area and is a great way to turn this soggy piece of land into a productive and more easily cultivated plot. It's hard work but when there are a few of you working away on it you can really see the progress. See link below from Saturday's session to see how it's coming along.
Digging is a great way to keep warm but the sound of the tea-bell is very welcome when it comes.
Thanks to you all for your support and here's to a happy and peaceful Christmas and a great New Year to each and every one of you.
