Just a quick update on the garden - we haven't been in touch for a while. Some of our potato crop is being dug up, ready to eat. The spuds are absolutely gorgeous - the proverbial balls of flour. So for those of you who wept and moaned and nursed blisters as you dug the ridiculously named 'lazy beds' - your reward has arrived. And for the rest of you, smother those pangs of guilt and fill your bag anyway. We also have radishes, salad and peas. So bring a bag to the garden and reap what you sow. Even if you haven't visited for a while, we won't send you away empty handed. We're going to be open this Saturday from 10.00am - 3.00pm so it would be great to see you at some point, even if you just want to have a wander round for 20 minutes. We've got oodles of things growing and there's loads to check out.
I know it can seem a bit daunting pulling on your wellies and coming down by yourself to the garden but we really want to emphasise to our members that 'the regulars' are not like the occupants of some horrible little pub who stop their conversation and turn to the saloon door as a Stranger comes to town. You can potter by yourself or join a small group working on a particular area and it's amazing how easy it is to get into conversation when you're all working away. And of course a nice cup of tea afterwards always breaks the ice. So please - don't be a Stranger - come and see us. Genuinely - you are welcome! All you need is a mug, some wellies or boots and a bag for the veggies. Very excitingly we are also launching our new website. It's still a work in progress and we're hoping to add new sections and improve it as the months go on but see what you think - we'd love your comments. www.santrycommunitygarden.ie Finally - a call out for bizarre but useful things. You know those funny little white sachets of silica that come with new handbags? If you've got any to spare we'd love them please (it will help keep our seeds dry). We're also have a great run on our bamboo supplies so if you've any going spare we'd really appreciate it (any length). In fact if there is anything that you have that might be of some possible use to us, give us a shout. Your junk could be our treasure. We're marvellous scavengers.
And on that note I'll close.
See you soon, The Santry Community Garden Committee
