To say the Conservation Volunteers (http://www.conservationvolunteers.ie/) are Friends of the Garden would be rather understating their incredible support. They have agreed to work on the construction of the shelter on Saturday 28th January.
But before we can do that we need to go and select the timber from Turvey (up near Donabate). The CV's will be meeting at 10am next Saturday 21st January to gather the timber together and they have asked would any Garden members be around to help them as they need all (strong) hands on deck. Hence this SOS. Can you come along on Saturday 21st to give a hand between 10am - 1.30pm? In particular we would be grateful for help from those who can do a bit of heavy-ish lifting.
Please also note that in order to get as good a turn out as possible, the Garden will be closed on Saturday 21st.
So if you hardly ever get to the garden but would like to do us a good turn this is your chance - come on lads (and lassies)! We need all the help we can get and I really want to demonstrate our gratitude to the Conservation Volunteers by ensuring lots of SCG members are there. If you would like to take a lift to Turvey we will organise some cars, leaving Santry Demesne carpark at 9.15am. If you want a lift or if you would be willing to give any other members a lift please let Donna know.
Directions to Turvey from Sam Rhodes are below. I'll post this information on the website as well. Take the M50 to the M1 interchange, up the M1, then take the exit toward Skerries/Rush/Donabate off the M1. At the roundabout, take the right exit to Skerries/Rush Donabate and at the next roundabout take the 1st exit (straight ahead) onto R132, Turvey Avenue. Go straight through first small roundabout, at second small roundabout take second exit (far right). Continue along this road about half a mile until you see a large gateway on your left, that's Turvey, it's pretty hard to miss. I think there is also a sign either for Turvey allotments or the Birdwatch Ireland hide on the other side of the road to direct you in. We will meet just inside the entrance in the main car park at 10.00 am.
If directions don't make sense if you google maps Turvey Golf Club we are right next door.
Here's the allotments photo gallery with some lovely pics of the nature reserve to give you some idea what it's like!
For anyone coming volunteering with us that day our rules are: Sturdy shoes, no runners, no wellies, preferably hiking boots, bring wet gear and lunch! Tea and biccies will be provided! Finally fyi, the garden will be closed to the public on 28th during construction and we may ask our gardeners who aren't helping with the building to work in the orchard to keep the site clear and minimise any risks to members.Any questions or queries just give me a shout. Thanks a million in advance for your support,
