This week we have mainly been eating ….
Despite the fact that we have all been going home with oodles of them for the past ten days there are still more to harvest. Kids adore them so why not bring them down this weekend and introduce them to the age old picking process of ‘one for the punnet, one for me’.
We don’t normally contact our members and friends more than once every few weeks so please forgive another missive from us, but we wanted to let you know about Flavours of Fingal and to appeal for volunteers to help us man our stall and plant some sunflowers.
Flavours of Fingal is a fantastic ‘food, farm, family fun’ event taking place in Newbridge House on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st July.
The Santry Community Garden are teaming up with the Conservation Volunteers, OWLS and the Golden Eagle Trust to run a sunflower planting activity in the Biodiversity section of the show. In return we’ll have a stall of our own where we can publicise the garden, and hopefully get a few new members into the bargain.
Volunteers helping out get free admission to the event (normally €12 for adults) so there’s something in it for everyone.
SOS to Members: Would you be willing and able to give up a couple of hours of your time that weekend to help out? We don’t necessarily need people for the whole day (unless you really want to!) as we’ll have a rota set up. The event runs between 11am – 5pm both days.
If you can help please contact Donna at santrycom or call her on 087 411 2537 to let her know when you would be available that weekend.
The Flavours of Fingal Show will combine the sights and sounds of an agricultural show with an unforgettable food and family fun experience. The farm section of the two day show will feature a program of livestock and sheep competitions, equestrian contests and other agricultural displays. Meanwhile the historic walled garden of Newbridge House will host the food producers section of the show and will feature an array of favourite local delights, cooking demos and all things food in Fingal. Also on offer over the course of the weekend will be family and musical entertainment and a programme of walks, talks and festival antics.
More info on the day can be found on the website www.flavoursoffingal.ie. Even if you’re not volunteering it will be a great day out for the family so worth considering going to.
Thanks in advance and looking forward to hearing from you!
